Installation Methods

The base driver install utility (SetupBD.exe) allows unattended install of base drivers from a command line.

Intel® PROSet for Windows* Device Manager is supported on Microsoft* Windows* 2000, Windows XP, and Microsoft Windows Server* 2003. Use DxSetup.exe to Install PROSet for Windows Device Manager.

Intel PROSet is supported on Microsoft Windows 98.  Use PROSet.exe to install PROSet on Windows 98.

NOTES:
  • Windows XP x64 and Windows Server 2003 x64 do not support unattended driver installation.

  • Intel® PRO/10GbE adapters do not support unattended driver installation.


Base Driver Installation

Command Line Options

SetupBD.exe supports the following command line switches. 

NOTE: You must include a space between switches.
Switch Description
/s silent install with no reboot
/r force reboot (must be used with the /s option)
/u uninstall
/infdir directory_name search for inf and driver files only in the specified directory

Examples:

Option Description
SetupBD

Installs and/or updates the driver(s) and displays the GUI. Reboot options are displayed on Windows 98 . No reboot is required for other OSs.

SetupBD /s Installs and/or updates the driver(s) silently.
SetupBD /s /r Installs and/or updates the driver(s) silently and forces a reboot.
SetupBD /u Uninstalls all drivers from the system.
SetupBD /infdir x:\infdir Installs and/or updates the driver(s), looks for inf and driver files only in the specified directory

Other information

NOTE: If you uninstall an adapter's driver from Windows Device Manager, you must reboot before using SetupBD.exe to install a new driver.

You can use the "/r" option only with a silent install (i.e. with the "/s" option). Because a restart is not required with Windows 2000 and newer operating systems, the "/r" option will be ignored when used with those operating systems.


Intel PROSet for Windows Device Manager Installation

This section describes how to install Intel PROSet for Windows Device Manager from the command line. It describes all the command line options supported in DxSetup.exe.

Command Line Switches

Switch Description
/i install
/x uninstall
/q[f|r|n] silent install options.

f Full GUI install
r Reduced GUI Install (only displays critical warning messages)
n Silent install

/l[i|w|e|a]

log file option.

i log status messages.
w log non-fatal warnings.
e log error messages.
a log the start of all actions.

Command Line Parameters

Parameter Definition
ANS "0", deselect / hide ANS.  The basic and extended features of PROSet for Windows Device Manager will be installed.

"1", select ANS. The basic, extended and advanced features of PROSet for Windows Device Manager will be installed.

Syntax Examples

<Full path to DxSetup.exe> /i /q[f|r|n] /l[iwea] <Full path to install.log> [ANS=0|1]

Silent Install/Upgrade Command Line Syntax

The following example launches a typical silent installation of DxSetup.exe from the CD or download directory.

\APPS\PROSETDX\2KXPWS03\DxSetup.exe /i /qn /li C:\install.log ANS=0

Uninstall Command Line Syntax

The following silently uninstalls all of Intel PROSet for Windows Device Manager components. Intel PROSet for Windows Device Manager will be installed on %Program Files%\Intel by default.
As part of Installation, DxSetup.exe will be copied to %Program Files%\Intel\DMIX\uninst directory.

%Program Files%\Intel\DMIX\uninst\DxSetup.exe /x /qn /li C:\uninstall.log


Installing Intel PROSet on Windows 98

Intel® PROSet II is shipped for Microsoft Windows 98.

Command Line for Windows 98

By default, Windows Installer Service is not installed on Windows 98. The PROSet.exe utility located in the same folder as PROSet.msi is used to install Windows Installer Service and Intel PROSet II.

Command Line Install Examples:

The following will install Intel PROSet II.

PROSet.exe /qn /liew C:\inst.log

Command line uninstall examples:

msiexec.exe /x D:\apps\PROSet\WIN98SE\PROSet.msi REBOOT= ReallySuppress
msiexec.exe /x {2B8D4AFB-05D0-49F3-82E3-B7F4D1043CEF} REBOOT= ReallySuppress
NOTE: Uninstalling or upgrading Intel PROSet on Windows 98 requires a reboot to clean up the cached MSI package. You can suppress the reboot from the command line.

NOTES:
  • Not all command line options Microsoft provides with msiexec.exe have been tested or are necessarily supported for Intel PROSet installation.

  • msiexec also sets an error level on return that corresponds to system error codes: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library
